Button Beanies

Another new design for the shop and new yarn.  And I really love this yarn, it is soft, squishy and the colour changes are gorgeous.  I am waiting for the buttons to be delivered then these can be listed in the shop.  One of these is already reserved for a special little man who will be arriving before Christmas ;)

Mystery Knit A Long

One of my favourite knitting designers is running a mystery knit a long at the moment.  Basically you sign up and get sent a small part of the pattern each day or so.  Along with lots of other knitters you all knit up the pattern without really knowing what it is you are knitting.  Melody, of Melody's Makings has designed some really lovely baby hats and other baby bits and pieces ideal for photo props so I figured I would join in with this one as a bit of fun and hopefully I may get a new item for the shop out of it.

The first part of the pattern arrived in my inbox late last night and I couldn't resist getting started.  I had hoped to work the pattern in two different shades of green but I couldn't find just the right yarn so have gone with two shades of blue.

I have been a bit naughty and not checked my gauge properly as I didn't have the correct needles but figured if I do the smallest size if it turns out any bigger it won't be a problem as it will just end up being 3 months instead of newborn.

Well here it is so far, we have wondered whether it is a hat, or maybe a pair of trousers with braces?!  I guess I will just have to wait and see!

Strawberry Season

Well the universe conspired against us this year and we never made it to the pick your own strawberry farm.  I am hoping we can get there to get some berries so that I can have summer pudding before its too late.

This strawberry baby hat is one of my favourites, love the little crochet strawberry flower.  My 4 year old still asks me to make one in her size everytime she sees one on my needles!

Oatmeal Marl Hat

Loving this new oatmeal marl yarn.  It is a wool mix so a little warmer than my other pom pom hats.  It has a lovely natural rustic look and is great for unisex baby gifts.  Thank you Linda Clarke Photography for the fabulous photo, what a gorgeous little girl!

Hat available for custom order at The Yarn Owls Nest.

Sunny Seaside Inspired Hat

A few lovely beach days have inspired the colourway for this newborn baby hat.  It is knitted in a lovely silvery grey and denim blue vegan yarn and the prototype was actually knitted up on the beach. It is for sale already up on The Yarn Owl's Nest Etsy Shop but if you would like a different size please contact me.

As for the beach, everyone loved it, and I am still finding sand around the house even after hoovering and sweeping!

Oatmeal Marl Rabbit Hat

My main knitted baby bunny hat season is over for another year but I couldn't wait to share this lovely image with you.  This hat is knitted with a stretchy ribbed edging which I think makes it look a bit more boy-ish, although the roll brims are unisex and have the advantage of making the hat fit slightly longer.  The yarn is a gorgeous wool mix chunky so it is also a bit warmer than the acrylic ones.

Thank you to Rachel Jefferies for the lovely newborn photo.

Girl-ing Up My Brown Pom Pom Hat!

I absolutely love this!  What a great idea, I never thought of this hat as anything but a boys hat but the talented Tami Bears, photographer at Artistic Photography by Tami added a lovely pink flower and voila, perfect for a newborn girl!

This hat in a number of sizes and in other colours is available in my Etsy shop.

Star Wars Baby

So today is Star Wars Day.  Mr T is a big Star Wars fan, and his little sister has realised that being interested in Star Wars means she can play with him and his lego a bit more, something she is always trying to do!  For a long time this Yoda baby hat has sat in my to-do pile until a photographer reminded me  and I finally cast it on.  It is knitted with a super soft chunky acrylic yarn and I think it is a great match for Yoda himself.

I borrowed Mr T's lego figures and set myself up a little scene with them, only to be told that this character would not be with that character and so on, so I let him set them up instead.  I am not sure whether to stock this hat or whether to keep it for custom orders as the ears took more concentration than I have late at night at the moment.  This one is winging its way to Ireland to Linda Clarke, hopefully I will be able to share a photo of it being worn by a gorgeous newborn baby soon.

If you would be interested in ordering one please contact me through my Facebook page, here or via The Yarn Owls Nest, my Etsy shop.  In the meantime May The Force Be With You!

Self Striping Yarn

I love using self striping yarn, especially the Adriafil Knitcol range.  On my needles right now is a baby hat knitted in the shade called Degas.

Pom Pom Earflap Hat

I love this photo of my pom pom hat, it has a real spring feel to it.  This is the hat I blogged about here but in a different colour.  I am really pleased at is one of the hats I have actually designed the pattern for myself.  If you would like to buy one they are available in a few different colours and sizes on my Etsy shop, or message me through the shop if you would like an earflap pom pom hat in this colour or another colour or size not listed.

Monkeying about

I knitted this little guy as a special request for my photographer Rachel Jefferies.  I adapted a pattern from Melody's Makings to make it work with Stylecraft Chunky yarn.  The fluffy parts are knitted from a strand of Stylecraft and a strand of King Cole Moments in Koala.  The pattern suggested white for the face and inner ears but I went with cream as white seemed a bit harsh.  I am not sure whether to list him in the shop as he took a fair bit of knitting and sewing but I may offer him for custom orders!

Big Smiles

A happy customer sent me a photo of her gorgeous daughter Lexie!  She is exactly eight weeks old on this photo and her smile is totally infectious!  If you have a photo of your little one in one of my hand knits I would love to see it (I also offer a discount for a future purchase if I use the photo here or on my Facebook page!)

Talented Crafters

One of the great things about Etsy is the team spirit and support between sellers.  I am a member of many teams although at the moment I have so much knitting to do I haven't been as active a team member as I would like.  Many of the teams promote trading between sellers and I have been luck enough to be able to trade some knitted goodies for some lovely jewelry

.
This one is from EnchantedLeaves.  Its amber and copper and I adore it.  Mr T tried to convince me I really needed a golden Snitch but to no avail!

These two are from DoodlePip Designs, a lovely UK seller with lots of whimsical necklaces and rings etc.

The last picture is of my new toy in a custom made case.  After being in the dark ages for years and years I have treated us to a tablet.  The children love it (almost as much as me) and it's making my work a lot easier as I can do my online "stuff" so much quicker.  The case was custom made to fit the tablet when it has its bumper on by Kirsty from Kirstylicious.  I contacted her at the end of last week and the case arrived on Wednesday, great service and a really gorgeous well made item :)

If you are after some handmade goodies for Christmas gifts I can thoroughly recommend all three sellers for their quality and great customer service!

Winter is coming knit faster!

Its been so so busy around here with usual Christmas preparations, lots of knitting and Miss E's 4th birthday.

A custom order for Newborn Baby Posing Company.
